Before we began constructing the school, we saw that the people of Wunlang urgently needed a well. Girls and women were walking at least two hours a day to collect water that was not clean. We were very fortunate to find funding and a nearby drill rig in 2007. Now, people walk two hours to come to our well. It was so gratifying to see the well in action, to see the people and animals benefitting from it, and to drink that water ourselves. We have been asked to drill wells in other remote, suffering parts of Southern Sudan, and we will.
The drilling rig is a large and powerful construction machine. Without real roads, just getting equipment like this to remote village locations like Wunlang is a challenge.
